You've probably operated under the assumption that everything has a set price. The good news is that if you take the time to haggle, you'll more than likely be able to get a discount on pretty much anything. There are a few key ideas to keep in mind when you're bargaining for something, whether it's a personal electronic, furniture, or a car.
First, be willing to walk away. If you threaten to take your business elsewhere, you have to be able to follow through on that threat.
Second, make sure they know that you'd be bringing future business to them as well. It makes for a stronger argument when you threaten to walk away.
Depending on what you're bargaining for, try to have enough to be able to pay for it in cash. That means the merchant saves on credit card fees.
Even personal services like those offered by doctors and lawyers aren't set in stone. Don't think that just because someone has a title that they won't consider giving you a discount if you give them a good enough reason.
Be reasonable with the price you're asking for. If you ask for too much of a price reduction, you'd definitely not going to get it. If you decide on a fair price beforehand, you won't price yourself out of a discount.
