A few days ago, you may have seen the NYPD release this surveillance video:
They were looking for suspects in the kidnapping of a young couple in broad daylight in Washington Heights, NY. The police force had hundreds of cops on the lookout for the suspects and victims, and even sent a helicopter up looking for the black Chrysler minivan that was used to snatch the couple just before 7pm.
What they didn't know was that it was all a hoax set up by Cristian Joe's friends. He'd figured out that his girlfriend was planning a surprise birthday party for him for his 30th birthday. That's when the plan to recreate the kidnapping scene from "Old School" was hatched. His friends rented the black Chrysler minivan, and coordinated with Cristian's girlfriend to snatch them off the street and take them to a rented vacation house in Lake Harmony, PA.
That's where the group of friends partied for the entire weekend, completely unaware of the interest they'd sparked with the faked kidnapping. Apparently two girls saw it happen, freaked out, and called 911. When Cristian and his friends got back in town, they saw the video of the prank, and called the cops to let them in on it.
Cristian then spent a few hours down at police headquarters while the story was corroborated. While I have to give props to his friends for pulling this off, my guess is that they're going to end up on the hook for the money the city spent looking for them.
