When Dave Thomas from San Bernandino, CA wound up in jail for a few days for traffic violations, his dog Buzz Lightyear, a two year old pitbull mixed, was impounded at a local animal shelter. When Dave was released, he immediately went to pick up Buzz, but found he couldn't afford the $400 fee.

(Get ready to grab a tissue, cuz it's about to get really dusty wherever you're reading this.)

When Dave found out he wouldn't be able to get Buzz out of the pound, he sat down in front of the cage and cried, while he petted his dog's paw, the only thing he could reach. He then spent as much time as he could at the shelter, refilling his dog's water dish, and feeding him some Cheetos.

Fortunately, an animal lover and photographer named Maria Sanchez happened to be at the shelter, and took this photo of Dave and Buzz.

Maria posted it on Facebook, and appealed to animal lovers to help come up with the $400 so Dave could be reunited with Buzz. She managed to raise over $2,000, but then couldn't find Dave, because he hadn't left his contact info with the shelter. So Maria posted fliers all over town, and got in touch with a local TV station, and Dave was finally tracked down.

The poor guy broke down when he found out the money had been raised to rescue Buzz from the pound. You can see those photos here. (Break out more tissues, btw. It's about to get even more dusty wherever you're reading this.)
