Might as well make it an all Founders week and try their session IPA.
If you are new to the session IPA game, here's the deal in a nutshell.
Session beers are brews with lower ABV so you can drink more at one time (or session).
Usually IPAs hover between 6% and 9% ABV which isn't really conducive for say, watching a ballgame while drinking beers. So what breweries have been doing the last few years is trying to get all the hop flavor of an IPA in a beer with an ABV of less than 5%.
I've had Lagunitas version of this (the delicious Daytime) and I'll be comparing this to that throughout the review.
Look- Straw colored yellow (maybe a bit darker). This beer is very alive in the glass in that there's a lot of things moving around. The picture below captures it very well.
Smell-The hops hit you before you even bring it to your nose which is a great sign. On the nose, piney, citrus hops. Very toasty.
Taste-Citrus hops. A LOT of citrus hops.
Mouth-Medium to light bodied. VERY dry finish.
Overall-Well they had no problems keeping the hop flavor in this low ABV beer. That's a good thing. It's a little watery though and, personal opinion only, I like the hop in the Lagunitas Daytime a lot better. This is a good session IPA, just not the best.
