We are going to be doing a ton of stuff with our friends at Mad Fox Brewing Company. It starts tonight with our Chili Cookoff ticket raid from 8p-10p. We'll have tix to the show every FIVE minutes while we are there.
In honor of our budding friendship with Mad Fox, let's try one of their signature beers.
Look-We poured this from a growler and the gorgeous orange hue is apparent on the pour. In the glass, it's a dark amber color.
Smell-The hops are right on the nose. Piney notes with citrus and orange.
Taste-Interesting. The nose has much more hop flavor than the taste. The hops are there but the orange is the hero in the taste. It mellows out the overpowering hop flaovr to make for a pleasing taste.
Mouth-Medium bodied. Not as dry as I was expecting...although the finish is dry. I love the blend of hops and citrus. Makes it really smooth in the mouth.
Overall-An excellent IPA. I enjoy hops but I'm not a hophead at all so I appreciate the the muted hop taste. Hops are there for sure...but the orange really has the spotlight with the hops there for support. The finish is straight West Coast IPA so you'll get your hop fix there. The mouth is what attracts me to the beer though...and that's the orange.
Mad Fox has a 63-foot long bar showcasing our seven to ten standard, house-brewed beers on tap as well as a rotating selection of seasonal brews in German, English, Belgian and American styles. Also, don’t miss our cask conditioned proper Real Ales served through water jacketed Angram beer engines, ensuring that every pint is served at properly conditioned cellar temperatures.
About Orange Whip IPA:
This brew is dry hopped with Citra hops from our friends in Yakima at Hop Union. The kettle additions of Citra hops, brings this brew in at a whopping 75 IBU’s and the hops flavors are much more pronounced with citrusy hints of pineapple, orange etc. This version is also loaded with malt flavors with plenty of crystal malt, medium to full bodied and deep copper colored.
