Chi Cheng, bass player of the Deftones passed away during the overnight hours of April 13th. Nearly four and a half years ago, Chi was involved in a car accident which left him in a coma. A statement was left on the website One Love for Chi:
Our dearest Family, (April 14, 2013)
This is the hardest thing to write to you. Your love and heart and devotion to Chi was unconditional and amazing.
I know that you will always remember him as a giant of a man on stage with a heart for every one of you.
He was taken to the emegency room and at 3 am today his heart just suddenly stopped. He left this world with me singing songs he liked in his ear.
He fought the good fight. You stood by him sending love daily. He knew that he was very loved and never alone.
I will write more later. I will be going through the oneloveforchi site and any other information may not be reliable.
If you have any stories or messages to share please send them to the onelove site. Please hold Mae and Ming and the siblings and especially Chi’s son, Gabriel in your prayers. It is so hard to let go.
With great love and “Much Respect!” Mom J (and Chi)
Thank you to Phil and Hostgator.com for being kind enough to upgrade my server at no charge to handle the increased traffic to www.oneloveforchi.com so it won’t crash again. We appreciate it so much.
Thank you One Love Fam for your love and support. -Gina Blackmore
What I remember about the Deftones and seeing them for the first time in 1998 was that they were a band that loved everything about what they did and their fans. It was at the RFK Stadium parking lot when I saw them first as part of the Vans Warped Tour and was blown away by their live show. I saw them again in 2000 and 2001 and had an opportunity to hang with Chi, Chino and the rest of the band and they were just so humble and awesome.
My most favorite Deftones track:
There is no question that the annual kick off to St. Patrick's Day celebrations in the DC area is the annual awesomeness known as Elliot In The Morning's Kegs and Eggs. This go around was the 14th edition and in my opinion having attended the last six, this was definitely my most favorite and in my opinion the best ever!
It didn't hurt that the Dropkick Murphy's kicked off the show and tore the roof off the place. And that was with only four of their seven members. Either way...it was worth the 17 alarms I set to get up all butt early and roll up to the 9:30 Club.
I wasn't sure what to expect when The Alternate Routes got on the stage but what ended up happening was that I was impressed like who. They were awesome. If you get a chance to see them live, make it happen. Homie even used a toolbox as a musical instrument!
Stephen Lynch...potty mouth, offensive, lewd, awesome and hilarious. It showed. Though I wish that he played "She Gotta Smile," "What If That Guy From Smashing Pumpkins Lost His Keys," and "Country Love Song," but he did play "Down to the Old Pub Instead." That was pretty awesome.
And Carbon Leaf. Nothing else needs to be said. They were killer as they are every year.
I took photos with mobile Khan...here are a few highlights
The Dropkick Murphy's!!! (granted it was only four of the seven but still awesome!)
He totally went into the crowd during "Shipping Up To Boston"
Two of the most eligible bachelors in all of the DC area. Me with Chris Bukowski (@chrisjbukowski) from the Bachelorette and one of the peeps behind the Bracket Room coming to Arlington in summer 2013.
And of course...Carbon Leaf!!!
I don't mask the fact that I have a favorite band. I know in radio that you aren't really supposed to but I just like you all who listen to the station, I am a music fan. The favorite band in question here is Jimmy Eat World. I love the crap out of that band. If they come anywhere near the area, I make certain that I roll up and see them play.
They are currently wrapping up their eighth studio album which should be out sometime in the spring. With all that said, I'm having a bit of withdrawal from not having seen them in so long that I went to the YouTube and searched "Jimmy Eat World concert." And below was the top search result. Apparently this was at a county fair somewhere and bands were playing inside a tent. Not sure what genre of music this particular cover band specializes in but they sure do love them some Jimmy Eat World.
Check out grandma and grandpa (who eerily looks like Santa Claus) and their friends rock out "The Middle."
So...in the midst of my randomness at my full-time, I came across the weather report today about the storm and apparently the weather people are naming winter storms now.
Today's (January 25th) storm is aptly titled, "Winter Storm Khan."
I want to say that I'm going to bring it today with fierce and ferociousness which my Uncle Genghis brought when he and the Mongols pillaged everything in sight. But the reality is that me and my less than two inches are going to annoy the folks in the Mid-Atlantic rather than make a big mess.
Here's the latest on Khan.
Oh...and if I were to have a storm face...it would look a little like this...
A whole mess of my friends and probably yours got engaged over the holidays. Now it's the unenviable task of inviting those who are closest to you to the wedding. Then there is the list of folks who don't make the cut.
Apparently, I didn't make the cut for one wedding cause my buddy who did get engaged invited me out to dinner to not invite me to the wedding but to help him pick out the music for the reception. Really. REALLY! You don't me, the unsavory friend to be there but you want my help. Get bent yo!
This blog post (linked below) gives you some insight on how to make certain you don't have unsavory characters at your big day.
Check it out here. (The word "here" is an Internet link)
