New Bill in Maryland Could Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, and for many, it's a giant headache.

Everyone loses an hour of sleep but "gains" an hour of sunlight starting at 2am on March 8th, but Maryland lawmakers could permanently eliminate the changing of the clocks twice per year.

Legislation in the General Assembly are set to determine if they will make Daylight Saving Time permanent, making time in Maryland on Daylight Saving Time year-round.

There is one catch.

Even if the bill passes in Maryland, the federal Uniform Time Act would need to change to allow states to choose whether or not they observe Daylight Saving Time.

Delegates in Maryland say that Daylight Saving Time is antiquated and there are far more positives than negatives in making the change.

Many countries began adopting Daylight Saving Time during World War I as a means of conserving energy, went away following the war, then came back during World War II.
