Disney is pumping a lot of time and money to launch their new streaming service called Disney+. They recently bought out a ton of 21st Century Fox properties for $71 billion dollars which happens to include the rights to Home Alone.
Disney CEO Bob Iger says with the acquisition, "We are focused on leveraging Fox's vast library of great titles to further enrich the content mix on our platforms - for example, reimagining Home Alone."
Call me a pessimist but in no world do I ever want to see a Home Alone 'reimagining.' I'm pretty sure they went that route with Home Alone 3 and Home Alone 4 and everyone knows how much of pile of crap those two movies are. I realize the original Home Alone was by no means a perfect movie, but damn is it a classic and just fun to watch.
There are no details on if any of the original cast members will return to this new project or if it is a continuation of the original story from the first two movies or a re-do of it. And honestly I don't care because I know damn well Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern probably want nothing to do with this. End rant.
Iger also says the company plans to 'reimagine' Night at the Museum, Cheaper by the Dozen, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid as well. Disney+ is supposed to launch in November.
